Here are some ideas for outings and fun things for the week of October 7-13:

FREE:

  • Jul 2-Oct 15: Farmers Market @ Triwood Community Association (2244 Chicoutimi Dr NW) 3-7pm. Runs every Tuesday throughout the summer.
  • October 8 (12:00pm-7:00pm): Calgary Volunteer Fair – If you ever have had a hard time finding volunteer opportunities in the city, this is your place! At the Kerby Centre (1133 7 Ave SW), there will be tons of volunteer organization from across the city to make it easier to find the perfect volunteer position.

  • October 8 (7:00pm): DJ Chill Room Featuring Edmonton's Petroleum Soul Club - At SunnySider (1, 3300 14 Ave NE), there will be a DJ night featuring a mix of Calgary and Edmonton talent. Local act DJ Chill Room and Dirty City selectors Petroleum Soul Club will be playing smooth tunes from 7pm to midnight.

  • October 10 (10:00am-2:00pm): Thanksgiving Pie Bake-off - At the Calgary Farmers' Market, enjoy a decadent weekend of pie tasting at the market. Bring a donation for the Calgary Food Bank ($5 per person is recommended) and you can try every single pie in the competition. At the end, you can vote on your favorite pie.

  • Calgary Farmyard (Formerly Calgary Corn Maze) -  a fun place to go for all, about 10 mins southeast of Calgary. For more information on what's going on each week: https://www.calgaryfarmyard.com/fall-season Admission: online: $14.95, gate: $16.95
  • October 7 (7:00pm): Cleanin' Up the Town: Remembering Ghostbusters – At Globe Cinema, Ghostbuster fever is growing, especially since they started filming in our city. Calgary Underground Film Festival (CUFF) is presenting a screening. It's an in-depth documentary covering the making of the classic 1984 original. Admission: $8-10
  • October 8 (8:00am-5:00pm): The Once - At Festival Hall (1215 10 Ave SE), catch JUNO nominees The Once as they stop in at Festival Hall as part of their nationwide tour.. Admission: $30
  • October 8 (6:45pm): Calgary Spanish Film Festival – At Globe Cinema, there is the first ever Calgary Spanish Film Festival. Admission: $8-10

  • October 10 (7:00pm-9:00pm): The 1938 International Amateur Movie Show: A Reconstruction - at Contemporary Calgary (701 11 St SW), this will be a different kind of show. There will be a screening of a compilation of amateur films, some have been reconstructed for this event. Admission: $5-10
  • October 10 (7:00pm): Us and Them - at Canyon Meadows Cinemas, delve into the realities of homelessness at this documentary screening held in honour of World Homelessness Day. Admission: $10
  • October 11 (5:00pm-10:00pm): HEX: Halloween and Entertainment Expo -  At the BMO Centre, the organizers of ScreamFest are back with this awesome new event. This expo boasts celebrity guests, cosplay, a marketplace, screenings, games and haunted houses to explore. Admission: $30
  • October 11 (9:00pm): Dan Moxon - At King Eddy (438 9 Ave SE), this indie performer is in the house. Admission: $12-15
  • October 12 (10:00am-5:00pm): Calgary Feather Fest Show and Sale -  At Cedarbrae Community Centre (11024 Oakfield Dr SW), the sixth annual Feather Fest will be featuring a bird show. This show is the place for bird owners and enthusiasts. Admission: $5-12
